Description tercero12 2005-01-03 19:07:52 UTC
After emerging eternal-lands on an otherwise stable Gentoo build, it causes X to crash immediately on start. This is an issue only with the X.Org 6.8.0-r3. (I haven't checked 6.8.0-r1). I backdated my X.Org to 6.7.0-r3 and EL runs as it should. EL provides no debug output to help diagnose the problem (even when recompiled with -DDEBUG. The only thing unusual in my /var/log/XOrg.0.log file is a line:
No matching visual for __GLcontextMode with visual class = -1 (-1), nplanes = 0
This line is there a lot. I'm not sure if it is even related.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --sync
2. emerge -u x11-xorg
3. ACCEPT_KEYWORDS="~x86" emerge eternal-lands
4. (From within X) el

Actual Results:
X crashes and restarts to kdm (since I am running it)

Expected Results:
Loaded Eternal-lands and come up to an EL console screen.

All of the above tested from within a working KDE 3.3.2 system.

you neglected to provide `emerge info` like the bug report page said to

also, what opengl implementation are you using ? nvidia ?
Comment 2 tercero12 2005-01-03 22:19:07 UTC
Sorry forgot my emerge info. Also, my 3D setup is a Radeon 9500 using ATi-drivers 3.14.6.

ati-drivers are known not to work with xorg 6.8 at this point in time. ATI's next release, probably mid-January ( see http://www.rage3d.com/board/showpost.php?p=1333407704&postcount=159 ) will work with 6.8. You'll need to stick with 6.7 or stop using ati-drivers until then.
Comment 4 Joshua Baergen (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2005-11-20 12:49:27 UTC
Is this still an issue with current X/ati versions?

Re-opening...

Let us know if this is still a problem.
