I just tried to emerge kvirc on x86, it worked here. Therefore I am forwarding this to sparc64, as it may be related to that platform. Someone with access to such a machine please test and report here.
Works for me here on both ~sparc and sparc machines. The only thing that comes to mind at the moment is trying to set the MAKEOPTS to something slightly lower, or comment it out. See if that helps at all.
Waiting to see if the changing of MAKEOPTS affects this at all.
