It seems sys-apps/texinfo is required at runtime to render help. This is on a binary system, and texinfo was skipped because it is not in RDEPEND. Installing texinfo makes help work again. Reproducible: Always
Which help fails to render? In other words, if I delete texinfo from my system, how can I reproduce the problem?
I think any [help <cmd>] will fail. For me I get the following with texinfo removed octave:1> help ls sh: makeinfo: command not found warning: help: Texinfo formatting filter exited abnormally; raw Texinfo source of help text follows... and so on for any [help <cmd>] I tried.
Yup, sure enough... Thanks for the info, I'll have it fixed in a second.
