There is a problem with the licensing of the Microsoft truetype core fonts for the web: they are included in a tar.gz when you emerge xfree. It is illegal because they are not distributed in its original form (.exe or .cab). Ms truetype fonts sourceforge project, eula and faq: http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/ http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/eula.htm http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/faq8.htm Easy solution: remove the fonts from the xfree ebuild, and use my msttcorefonts ebuild.
are the fonts part of the xfree86 tar files ? or are they part of tar files that gentoo installs ? if its the first case then this is an issue that needs to be brought to the xfree86 group ...
They are part of tar files that gentoo installs, the file is truetype.tar.gz
This will be fixed in xfree-4.2.1.
