Description Santiago Tabares 2002-08-24 10:17:59 UTC
There is a problem with the licensing of the Microsoft truetype core fonts for
the web: they are included in a tar.gz when you emerge xfree. It is illegal
because they are not distributed in its original form (.exe or .cab).

Ms truetype fonts sourceforge project, eula and faq:
http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/

http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/eula.htm
http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/faq8.htm

Easy solution: remove the fonts from the xfree ebuild, and use my
msttcorefonts ebuild.

are the fonts part of the xfree86 tar files ?
or are they part of tar files that gentoo installs ?

if its the first case then this is an issue that needs to be brought to the
xfree86 group ...
Comment 2 Santiago Tabares 2002-08-25 13:55:53 UTC
They are part of tar files that gentoo installs, the file is truetype.tar.gz

This will be fixed in xfree-4.2.1.
