Description Thomas Wabner 2004-10-27 10:06:37 UTC
The german handbook of gentoo doesn't describe how to setup your keyboard-layout if you start the gentoo cd (stage 1,2,3). The default layout is set to "us" but for example i have a german pc-105 keyboard.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Try to boot from a gentoo image cd
2. the keyboard layout is set wrong
3.

Expected Results:
Please document how to set the keyboard layout to other than "us".

Doesn't the dokeymap boot option work?

http://www.gentoo.org/doc/en/handbook/handbook-x86.xml?part=1&chap=2#doc_chap_pre3

And below:
"""
If you are installing Gentoo on a system with a non-US keyboard, make sure you boot the LiveCD with the dokeymap boot option.
"""

It might be a good idea to make it stand out a bit more in translations.

Current German handbook:

"Wenn Sie Gentoo auf einem System mit einer non-US Tastatur installieren, booten sie die LiveCD mit der dokeymap Option."

Current English handbook us up-to-date and 2004.3 now has a nokeymap option and does dokeymap be default:

"You will then be greeted with a boot screen and progress bar. If you are installing Gentoo on a system with a non-US keyboard, make sure you press F2 to switch to verbose mode and follow the prompt. If no selection is made in 10 seconds the default (US keyboard) will be accepted and the boot process will continue."

Thanks. The new installation works fine and we never need more some information in the handbook (it is self describing).
