Apparently work/build/Makefile takes the wrong CXXFLAGS_FOR_BUILD. You can work around it by setting CFLAGS="$my_build_flags" CXXFLAGS="$my_build_flags" armv7a-hardfloat-linux-gnueabi-emerge gcc
