Error of buid and emerge --info

dev-libs/libgpg-error-1.27-r1 fails to build when 'emerge -avuND @world' after 'eselect profile set' 6 and, or 19. That is default/linux/amd64/13.0/desktop/plasma and default/linux/amd64/17.0/desktop/plasma, in beginig of Gentoo instalation.

libgpg-error-1.27-r1-ebuild.patch

Please try creating a local custom repository if you don't already have one:
https://wiki.gentoo.org/wiki/Custom_repository
Then please copy the ebuild to the local repository, something like:

mkdir -p /usr/local/portage/dev-libs/libgpg-error
cd /usr/local/portage/dev-libs/libgpg-error
cp -pR /usr/portage/dev-libs/libgpg-error/* .

Then please try editing the ebuild, and add double quotes around $(tc-
getBUILD_CC) on line 40, or apply the ebuild patch:

patch --verbose -p 5 </path-to-patch/libgpg-error-1.27-r1-ebuild.patch
repoman fix

do I understand it correctly that the issue is m32 being returned from tc-getBUILD_CC()? The eclass description of the function states
 133 # @RETURN: name of the C preprocessor for building binaries to run on the b uild machine

i.e it doesn't indicate any arguments. Is the -m32 specified in the correct place here?
Comment 5 Arfrever Frehtes Taifersar Arahesis 2018-01-02 11:25:39 UTC
dev-libs/libgpg-error was somehow relying on a short, incorrect output of tc-getBUILD_CC() which was fixed yesterday in:
https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/commit/?id=ea988da8e02e1ba501c73c961147f6ec63c58033

Is there a tracker bug for breakages on this already? It seems that the function descriptions needs updating in addition to that code change, to begin with.

Yes that is what I think is happening in the attached build.log. When I hacked the ebuild to add the double quotes it builds fine.

I've added toolchain as CC, so we'll see if that is expected behavior or not, it seems to contradict the function description at least.

Thanks, this patch works for me

Given that CC contains '-m32', I dare say it's expected. I can't think of any other way this could work, given our hacks so far.

It is expected, yes. CC can contain not just a compiler binary but also injected flags and tc-getBUILD_CC() returns CC value without any stripping.

Thus ebuild quoting fix is the correct one. Looks like the tree has quite a few of those:
    ::gentoo $ git grep -E '=\$\(tc-get'

I agree the function description is very vague. I'll try to come up with better blurb.

I'm not sure where unquoted tradition comes from. autoconf-generated ./configure scripts rely on it a lot by calling '$CC $CFLAGS <something>' and similar (not '"$CC" $CFLAGS....'). Would be nice to find it documented explicitly in autoconf manual.

Same problem here. My solution was the following: I'd deleted the abi_x86-lines from the .ebuild, because the emul-linux-package didn't exist anymore. After ebuild … manifest everything is fine.

RDEPEND="nls? ( >=virtual/libintl-0-r1[${MULTILIB_USEDEP}] )
    abi_x86_32? (
        !app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs[-abi_x86_32(-)]
        !<=app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-baselibs-20131008-r12
