Using 1.4 beta (with ccache). 
doing emerge galeon fails at the very end, I've tracked the problem down to: 
# gconftool-1 --get-default-source 
xml::/var/tmp/portage/gconf-1.0.0-r3/image//etc/gconf/gconf.xml.defaults

If anyone else is having this problem then a simple symlink fixed it for me. 
 
ln -sf / /var/tmp/portage/gconf-1.0.8-r3/image/ 
galeon-config-tool --install-schemas

this works for me here, try reinstalling gconf if that doesn't do it, and I
haven't had any other reports.
