Description Allen Ziegenfus 2004-08-31 08:34:14 UTC
I can't use gnumeric or abiword since clicking on the file menu of either application causes them to crash.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Run abiword or gnumeric
2. Click on file menu
3.

Actual Results:
Crash (segfault)

Expected Results:
Not crash

This doesn't happen with all GTK2 apps; all of Firefox's menus are fine for example.

Gnumeric debut output

I could not get a stack trace from gnumeric since it would crash before even
starting up when I ran it under gdb.

My emerge info

Here is my emerge info. I'm currently running 2.4.27 grsec kernel but I also
had the problem under a vanilla 2.4.26 kernel.

I forgot to mention the versions of gnumeric and abiword:

app-office/gnumeric-1.2.13 *
app-office/abiword-2.0.10 *

looks like some icon/gdk pixbuf problem, but i think it's probably something alpha related.

What version of gtk+ are you using ? upgraded your libpng recently ?
Comment 6 Allen Ziegenfus 2004-08-31 10:10:51 UTC
My gtk version is:

x11-libs/gtk+-2.4.4 *

As far as libpng, here's my emerge history. I recently updated for a libpng security fix but I have had this problem for a few months. It's possible that it started in May.

try rebuilding your libpng, see if it helps. After that try to upgrade gtk+ to the latest ~alpha version (2.4.9)
Comment 8 Allen Ziegenfus 2004-08-31 18:47:39 UTC
Tried rebuilding libpng and no luck. I emerged gtk+ but must not have synced lately so I now have 2.4.7. I still get the problem. I'll try 2.4.9 tonight.
Thanks for the suggestions
Comment 9 Allen Ziegenfus 2004-09-01 04:56:02 UTC
Emerged gtk+-2.4.9 and I still get the crash. I'll rebuild gtk+ with debug to get a better stack trace.
Comment 10 Andreas 2004-09-02 15:20:33 UTC
These kind of gnumeric crashes have sometimes been traced to corrupt themes. Perhaps you should try to change your theme and see whether the problem continues.

Another abiword stack trace ( a little different)

I rebuilt gtk+ with debug and no strip and did another stack trace. It came out
slightly different although I still didn't get any more debug info. I'll try
switching themes next. The theme switch program I have now keeps segfaulting so
I'll have to try another.

Any other ideas?
Comment 12 Allen Ziegenfus 2004-10-04 12:20:02 UTC
Well, I was never able to figure this out, so I ended up rebuilding my whole system. With my new system I don't get the problem anymore.

all right
