Currently stable version 0.8.8 does not obtain weather information anymore for at least a week. 0.8.9 works flawlessly.

Please remove 0.8.8 from portage because it is broken.  Thank you.

As stated above, 0.8.9 needs to move to stable. 0.8.8 is broken entirely and should be removed.

0.8.10 was added in Oct 2017, so I guess it's good to go.
