When I try to xorgconf, I get a huge spurt of unresolved symbol errors. I've tried this when i last installed gentoo on my computer, getting the same error. I did manage to get xfree86 working, but I have the feeling my friend altered the configuration example to force the configuration. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. #xorgcfg Actual Results: a very long error report: viewable at http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic.php?p=1417632#1417632 Expected Results: Come up with an X server with a menu for me to choose a configuration. My system: Intel Celeron 1.7 Ati radeon 9000 256 ddr ram 2*segate 40gb liteon na125 motherboard Here are some examples of the errors: Symbol XAAScreenIndex from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/siliconmotion_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol firegl_PM4Alloc from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol __glXActiveScreens from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.o is unresolved! Symbol DRIGetDrawableInfo from module /usr/X11R6/lib/modules/drivers/fglrx_drv.o is unresolved!
can you show the output of `emerge info` please?

This is a pretty typical-looking result of compiling with USE=pie or USE=dlloader. If you attach /var/db/pkg/x11-base/xorg-x11*/USE, that will show your compile-time USE flags rather than your current ones.

sorry. i'm kinda new and really stupid :) please tell me what i did and exactly how to fix it... :S however, i'm pretty sure i didnt specify any USE flags when emerging ati-drivers-extra... sorry again.
Ha im so stupid :) ive remerged xorg-x11 with the USE="-pie -dlloader": absolute waste of time. xorgcfg returned the same errors again. then, i tried xorgconfig - the manual configuration. startx works perfectly. :P thanks for your help guys :) I'll tell the world of my stupidity... hopefully helping others stuck too :) thanks again!!!! :D
This was never actually fixed, just worked around.
i'm getting similar results. xdm won't start up, and running Xorg -configure gives tons of symbol errors. see here for some details: http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-t-311704-highlight-.html
