openttd 1.6.1 was released Jul 1st, so 4 months ago.
One can only play with others online if they run the same version,
so unfortunately this is not possible with Gentoo for about 4 months now :-/

I do not know the detailed process to get a package stable, but what is
blocking with 1.6.1 so that it is not even as testing in the tree?

Manpower. I have played it in the past so I did consider taking this on but it's not the simplest of packages and I wondered whether openmsx and opensfx would need to be updated as well.

It has been bumped, but it seems that there is a problem - games eclass was dropped in openttd but not openmediapackages, thus openttd now fails to find e.g. opengfx from /usr/share/games/openttd

This is due to bug 600272

1.7.0 (the latest) is in the tree.
