With todays introduction of Plasma-5.5.4, the upgrade of kde-plasma/powerdevil resulted in the following message: -------- You have sys-power/upower-pm-utils installed, which was recommended in the past to enable suspend and hibernate support. This workaround is no longer required, and it is now recommended to use a recent version of upower and consolekit instead: emerge --ask --update ">=sys-auth/consolekit-1.0.0" sys-power/upower -------- I did as I was told, happy that this workaround is no longer needed. The result was, that I can now log out of KDE and nothing else. I can neither reboot, nor shutdown, suspend or hibernate. Could it be, that the ewarn was a bit too early? At least on my laptop, the now recommended usage of upower does not give me any possibility to suspend or hibernate using GUI methods. Currently installed on my system: kde-framework : 5.18.0 kde-plasma : 5.5.4 kde-apps : 15.12.1 dev-qt : 5.5.1
I just realized, that the message wasn't new and was already included in the powerdevil-5.5.2-r1.ebuild. However, something *did* change, because I can not get back suspend and hibernation functionality even when reverting to sys-power/upower-pm-utils. Everything worked with powerdevil-5.5.3, though. I suspect that some config files got removed by the upgrade and am investigating.
A few questions please: * Are the options to shutdown/suspend/hiberate missing or just non-functional? * OpenRC or systemd? * Which version of consolekit is installed? * How do you launch Plasma? * Which groups is your user in?
(In reply to Michael Palimaka (kensington) from comment #2) > A few questions please: > > * Are the options to shutdown/suspend/hiberate missing or just > non-functional? The options are missing. The K-Menu only shows "Logout". The "Leave" Icon from the Lock/Leave applet only offers to log out. However, in the Energy/Session sub-menu I can suspend the machine, and the Hotkey and lid close events let me suspend the laptop, too. I did rebuilt a few packages and the suspend option showed up. Right after installation, it wasn't there, and the suspend-action was mission from the power settings to be set for events like closing the lid. But I am using the alternative K-Menu. Let me take a look at the default one. No. The default one offers the same as in the session menu: "Logout", "New Session", "Lock Session" and "Suspend to RAM". > * OpenRC or systemd? sys-apps/openrc-0.19.1 with USE="ncurses netifrc pam tools unicode -audit -debug -newnet -prefix -selinux -static-libs" > * Which version of consolekit is installed? sys-auth/consolekit-1.0.1 with USE="acl cgroups pam policykit -debug -doc -selinux -test" > * How do you launch Plasma? Via x11-misc/sddm-0.13.0-r1 with USE="consolekit pam -systemd" > * Which groups is your user in? disk,wheel,uucp,audio,cdrom,video,usb,users,portage,games,plugdev,phcusers,vglusers,bumblebee,boinc,kvm,stb-admin,android
Thank you very much for the links. reading through bug 571974 makes me believe this to be a duplicate concerning consolekit, and not poverdevil+upower. If the suggested fixes work, I'll mark this as a duplicate.
Thank you again, Michael! The consolkit upgrade must have been in between and never occurred to me as a possible culprit. After the "fix" from bug 571974 (re-add the nox11 option to the pam_ck_connector.so I just had to remove the K-menu and re-add it, and the options are back. *** This bug has been marked as a duplicate of bug 571974 ***
