Howdy. Looking here https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi , for my 6205, they recommend this firmware today: https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/_media/en/users/drivers/iwlwifi-6000g2a-ucode-18.168.6.1.tgz Is this what is covered by the version currently in Portage? Thanks!
Is that not already packaged in sys-firmware/iwl6005-ucode-18.168.6.1?
As soon as nobody takes this, it will be better to treeclean this in favor of linux-firmware
For "Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300" and "Intel® Centrino® Advanced-N 6200" the current version sys-firmware/iwl6000-ucode-9.221.4.1 is still the most recent and the only version listed for these particular cards. https://wireless.wiki.kernel.org/en/users/Drivers/iwlwifi https://www-ssl.intel.com/content/www/us/en/support/network-and-i-o/wireless-networking/000005511.html That said; it isn't outdated, only unmaintained, on the other hand the firmware last changed 2011-06-03: https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/iwlwifi/linux-firmware.git/log/iwlwifi-6000-4.ucode
Please, do not remove iwl6000-ucode from portage. My "Intel® Centrino® Ultimate-N 6300" does not work without it, even if the in-kernel firmware is present. I have gentoo-sources-4.4.6...
Use sys-kernel/linux-firmware instead
Why was this removed? This is the only firmware that works on Lenovo X201. Installing sys-kernel/linux-firmware is not an option when you only need 400KB of firmware which used to work just fine from this package. Please, restore this ebuild into the main portage tree! Thanks, -Nikolay
