Looks like screen's texinfo cannot be translated by makeinfo. Tried with sys-apps/texinfo-5.2 and sys-apps/texinfo-6.0: makeinfo raises an error. With sys-apps/texinfo-4.13-r2 translation works fine and emerge of screen finishes successfully. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Maybe a >=texinfo-5.1 breakage? (tracker bug 464362)
I'm getting the same problem. I've figured out that line 2975: @documentencoding ISO-8859-1 is causing the issue. Gleaning the texinfo documentation, this parameter should be near the top, but after @setfilename . I'm submitting a patch that fixes this, but someone with better knowledge of the format should confirm this.
