Description Lance Lassetter 2004-07-02 13:38:38 UTC
I've tried Totem > media-video/totem-0.99.5 and can't get it to start. Tried running it in gdb but very little debugging information is revealed. And totem-0.9.55 won't compile at all with libegg errors or something.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge >media-video/totem-0.99.5
2. try to start totem
3. totem fails with very little debugging information, although there is some info in syslog

Actual Results:
totem fails to start, errors in /var/log/syslog are:

iid OAFIID:BrokenNoType:20000808 has a NULL type
and
invalid character '#' in iid 'OAFIID:This#!!%$iid%^$%_|~!OAFIID_ContainsBadChars'

Also the totem process fails to die, once started.

Expected Results:
gnome's default media player, totem, to run properly.

Read the release notes, especially the part about what to do if totem locks up before the main window shows.

i am getting the same error, but a strange thing is, that i can run totem as root. this behavior started one week ago. i have done an new installation of gentoo. i didn't change my configuration files, i olny did a fresh install.
Comment 3 Daniel Schindler 2004-07-18 16:54:13 UTC
i finaly got totem working. i have downgraded my kernel to version 2.6.5 (i had vers. 2.6.7) and now it's working!

can't do much with this bug as it is, looks more like an orbit bug than totem.

If this is reproducable on the latest totem & not kernel bound, open a new bug.
