Description Shaun Crampton 2004-06-25 16:08:01 UTC
Whenever X starts up after switching to ati's drivers (for my radeon 9000). I get massive display corruption, overlayed bleck boxes all over the screen - this usually goes away if i ctrl-alt-backspace to restart the X server.

Reproducible: Sometimes
Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge X, gentoo-dev-sources, ati-drivers
2. run fglrx-config
3. opengl-update ati

Actual Results:
I get black boxes all over the screen the first time i start X (via init script)

My fglrx-config generated XFree86Config

I tried adding the Option "KernelModuleParm" "agplock=0"
as suggested in the hint when emerging (is it in the correct place if indeed it
has anything to do with this). Also changed Option "OpenGLOverlay" to
"on" otherwise opengl would be completely corrupt (just garbage on the
screen)

Is this still a problem with 3.14.6?
Comment 5 Robert Wohlrab 2005-06-22 07:58:56 UTC
The bug seems to be dead. If not please check it with ati-drivers-8.14.13
Comment 6 Shaun Crampton 2005-06-22 08:09:48 UTC
Tried it. The new driers just give me a blank screen full stop (monitor powers
down :( ). I've tried fglrxconfig and taking a fully working xorg.conf and
substituting "fglrx" for "radeon".
Comment 7 Matthew Tippett 2005-08-17 21:38:17 UTC
Please verify with 8.16.
Comment 8 Stephan Diestelhorst 2005-10-18 10:07:20 UTC
I get similar results with a Radeon 9500, tested with driver versions 8.18.6
and 8.14.13-r2. Changing (console-)framebuffer from radeon to vesafb-tng and to
none (i.e. standard text console) didn't help, aswell as using internal /
external agpgart drivers.
Display corruption takes place when moving windows and switching focus.
(Using KDE 3.4.1 and X.org 6.8.2).
Comment 9 Jakub Moc (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2006-08-20 05:33:25 UTC
I don't see this going anywhere. If you still have issues, report them upstream, we can't fix binary stuff.
