Whenever I try to use gtkpod with my ipod touch 4th generation(IOS 5.0.1) gtkpod crashes with a segmentation fault, I'm using ifuse to mount the ipod
here's my backtrace:

Steps to Reproduce:
1. attack Ipod to laptop
2. ifuse /media/ipod
3. run gtkpod(root or non root)
Actual Results:  
segmentation fault

Expected Results:  
not crash

User “ThatBum” on the ubuntu forums seems to have tracked down the problem.
It indeed does seem to be an XML parsing error trying to read  iTunes_Control/iTunes/PlayCounts.plist. After deleting that file, gtkpod could manage my iPod just fine.

Here is the important quote from his post:
