Description Andrew Udvare 2014-11-23 23:09:34 UTC
Every time I hit tab when using make this line pops shows before the completions.

-bash: set +o posix: command not found

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge '>=app-shells/bash-completion-2.1-r93'
2. eselect bashcomp enable make
3. cd to directory that has a a Makefile
4. type `make `<TAB>
Actual Results:
-bash: set +o posix: command not found\n\n shows up before completions.

Expected Results:
Only the completions should show.

I'm afraid I can't reproduce. Do you have anything that could cause this in your bashrc? Maybe some kind of 'set'? Or IFS override?
Comment 2 Andrew Udvare 2014-11-24 10:11:18 UTC
My bashrc only has `set -o vi`. However, I too am unable to reproduce at this time. I killed all my Bash instances and now this error does not occur.

I thought this might have to do with virtualenv but I re-did everything from a clean shell including `workon projectName` (virtualenv-wrapper) and still not getting the error.

Tried with and without tmux.

If this pops up again, I will report.
Comment 3 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2014-11-24 10:20:22 UTC
Well, I certainly *can* reproduce this if I set another IFS. I will report upstream and see what they think.
Comment 4 Andrew Udvare 2014-11-24 10:26:38 UTC
Actually that is it. I often do this:

IFS='\n'; for i in "$something_newline_delimited"; do ...

I didn't realise that stays permanent throughout the session. I guess I have not been bothered by it because I rarely need to split on the default IFS.

After running a loop once: IFS=$'\n'; for i in *; do echo "$i"; done

the error is back:
$ make -bash: set +o posix: command not found
-bash: set +o posix: command not found
Comment 5 Michał Górny archtester Gentoo Infrastructure gentoo-dev Security 2014-11-24 10:29:03 UTC
Submitted upstream. Not sure if they aren't going to declare changing IFS being unsupported anyway, though.

Resubmitted to the new bug tracker.

The issue has been supposedly fixed upstream. Expect a fix in 2.8.
