If you emerge dev-lang/php-5.3.28-r3 (maybe more recent versions), the compilation will fail with an error like: Zend/zend_language_parser.y:50.1-5: invalid directive: `%code' (with bison2.3 in my case) It seems to need bison2.3a minimum. See https://www.mail-archive.com/php-cvs@lists.php.net/msg55303.html Compilation works for me with bison 2.4.3. So the ebuild must have >=bison2.3a for depends
