Description c.wehrmeyer 2014-06-07 07:42:57 UTC
When I try to start an update:

emerge --update --deep @world --ask

I get the error that the Xlibs which I am using for the zsnes emulator on my box do block the update of x11-proto/dri2proto:

[blocks B ] app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs[-abi_x86_32(-)] ("app-emulation/emul-linux-x86-xlibs[-abi_x86_32(-)]" is blocking x11-proto/dri2proto-2.8-r1)

Humble and hornest request to update the dependencies of the emulation package, as far as my unexperienced eye can tell 2.2 is from 2010?
I cannot imagine they'll have changed that much.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. emerge --update --deep @world --ask
2. Enjoy
3. Enjoy

Expected Results:
Updating the DRI2 libs, I guess. Performing the update. Letting zsnes and the system get along with the new DRI2 interface libs.

I'm not sure, but it looks like you may have the following (can you confirm?):

  1. A mostly stable system (no ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~amd64, and few or no packages installed with ~amd64 via package.keywords or similar).
  2. AMD_X86=32 is enabled globally in make.conf
  3. amd_x86_32 is NOT unmasked (no /etc/portage/profile/use.mask, or it doesn't contain "-amd_x86_32")

If this is the case, then it looks like perhaps the multilib team forgot to add "x11-proto/dri2proto abi_x86_32" to "/usr/portage/profiles/arch/amd6/package.use.stable.mask"?

----
The simplest end-user workaround: Add "x11-proto/dri2proto -abi_x86_32" to "/etc/portage/package.use", although this might cause more problems whenever multilib is finally stabilized.

An arguably better end-user workaround, to prevent similar problems in the future: Take AMD=32 out of make.conf, and instead only narrowly enable it for the specific "leaf" applications that need it (like wine) in "/etc/portage/package.use".

A much more involved workaround: Go whole-hog native-package multilib, even though it isn't really stabilized yet. Currently installing emul-linux* packages with abi_x86_32 enabled is not easily supported unless you go unstable (ACCEPT_KEYWORDS=~amd64), but enough packages have been converted that there is a reasonably good chance you could get your mostly-stable system working without emul-linux* packages at all. For details, see http://forums.gentoo.org/viewtopic-p-7509542.html?sid=c5b44664c998872c1c014477e22c3048#7509542

The emul-linux-x86 packages have been removed.
