Description Jean-Marc Petit 2004-05-10 05:11:13 UTC
Installed Gentoo with LiveCD 2004.0. Updated portage and emerge on April 26, 2004.
From that tree, emerged developement-sources-2.6.6-rc1 and installed them.

Kernel 2.6.6-rc1 is up and running, using devfs, with devfsd running.

With all this, I can't see my second hard disk which is located in the docking station. Under RedHat 9.0, kernel 2.4.20, it appears as /dev/hde and work great. It's an IDE disk.

Computer: IBM Thinkpad A21p with 30GB disk in docking station.

No "hde" disk appears in /dev. How comes ?

hm, did redhat load a special kermel module to support the docking station?
if you still have access to this installation could you please check with
lsmod if there are any modules loaded?

i don't think that it's related to the fact that devfs has been deprecated
in 2.6 kernels. you might consider booting with devfs=nomount for testing
and for the future.

We can't do anything about this since the issue is in the upstream development sources; can you please file a bug with the upstream kernel developers at http://bugme.osdl.org? If you have a patch for this bug which we can add to Portage, or any other issues then please reopen this bug. Thanks!
