I suggest to help the user to install inkscape with LaTeX rendering support. 
Inkscapes 0.48 is shipped with an LaTeX renderer, but it is hidden, if inkscape can not find the following programs:
latex, dvips, pstoedit [1]

I am not sure, if it is possible to add a use flag "renderlatex" which will create different dependencies. Perhaps one should write a note in LONG DESCRIPTION?
