after upgrading to version 9.19 i have massive problem to start ncurses programms like mc and genkernel. i only see cryptic symbols i tested if the environment is the problem, but in xterm all works. yes this is the right image. i have massive proble to use mc and any other ncurse application in urxvtc, cut the cryptic symbols. in the tty it works fine and in xterm there is no problem.
I had issues with some characters (nothing special, "E", "R" and others) turning into unreadable symbols. Changing the font helped for a while, then the issue reappreaded. The solution was to delete all cache files in ~/.fontconfig. Be aware to not delete config files ;)
