wdm combines the functions of a graphical display manager identifying and authenticating a user on a system with some of the functions of a session manager in selecting and starting a window manager. Optionally, wdm can shutdown (reboot or halt) the system. wdm is a modification of XFree86's xdm package for graphically handling authentication and system login. Most of xdm has been preserved (XFree86 3.3.2.3) with the Login interface based on a WINGs implementation using Tom Rothamel's "external greet" interface

This ebuild as given didnt build on my system due to bugs in the base tar.gz file. I applied the patch from the bebian package of wdm and recreated the tar.gz file from the patched version to make a buildable and installable wdm. I would suggest applying the relevant sections of this patch from the ebuild.
I am going to be looking into this package more. It hasn't been updated since 2000... the last bit of xdm code was taken from xdm 4.0.x... so this puts it a couple of revisions behind... I will look at the debian patches to see what they change but the need for such an out of date package is questionable. I'll post more here as I get some research done. If you have any comments regarding the security of wdm compared to xdm/kdm/gdm... that would be important to know.
http://www.tcscs.com/wdm/ The site and project appear to be dead since 2000... the base of xdm code is quite behind compared to xdm/gdm/kdm... I don't think this package is a good idea to have on gentoo currently.
