Looks like it's a race condition problems in which causing the lib relinking. Commenting off my config of "MAKEOPTS="-j8" and re-emerge fixes this issues, although i don't think this is a proper fix, because this is the only package that i have trouble on.
Comment 4 Artem Sidorenko 2013-09-26 13:53:54 UTC
same for me, commenting out MAKEOPTS="-j8" solves the linking issue
Comment 5 Alexander Tsoy 2013-10-06 22:07:23 UTC
Looks like a fix for this issue:
https://github.com/balabit/syslog-ng-3.4/commit/0e669df018028b11cc122dfae513ca4adb9ed73f
Comment 6 Alexander Tsoy 2013-10-06 22:11:19 UTC
No, ignore my previous comment.
Comment 7 Alexander Tsoy 2013-10-14 10:00:43 UTC
This looks like a known automake bug:
http://gnu-automake.7480.n7.nabble.com/relinking-error-td6954.html

"Between different variables (say, lib_LTLIBRARIES and pkglib_LTLIBRARIES)
currently there is no guaranteed installation ordering at all."

In the case of syslog-ng:
$ egrep 'LTLIBRARIES|DEPENDENCIES' lib/Makefile.am
lib_LTLIBRARIES = libsyslog-ng.la
module_LTLIBRARIES = libsyslog-ng-crypto.la
libsyslog_ng_crypto_la_DEPENDENCIES = libsyslog-ng.la
Comment 8 Alexander Tsoy 2013-10-14 14:28:11 UTC
Possible workaround: pass --with-embedded-crypto to configure, so libsyslog-ng-crypto is directly linked into libsyslog-ng. Separate libsyslog-ng-crypto.so will not be created in that case.

> Possible workaround: pass --with-embedded-crypto to configure

Personally I don't see any problems with this solution. Seems that libsyslog-ng-crypto is being linked at runtime anyway (if syslog-ng is built with USE=ssl).

$ sudo lsof -p$(pidof syslog-ng) 2>/dev/null | grep libsyslog-ng-crypto

reopen if this is still an issue with syslog-ng-3.6.1
