I tried to compile open-vm-tools-kmod with different kernels and different gcc specs.

Build log for Kernel 3.9.9
Comment 3 Frederik Schaller 2013-08-22 14:46:40 UTC
I compiled a kernel without grsecurity and I could build open-vm-tools-kmod.
Comment 4 Tomáš Mózes 2013-10-18 19:18:41 UTC
vsock is already included in kernel 3.9:

https://git.kernel.org/cgit/linux/kernel/git/stable/linux-stable.git/tree/net/vmw_vsock/Kconfig?id=refs/tags/v3.9
Comment 5 Mike Gilbert gentoo-dev 2014-08-10 16:27:47 UTC
We no longer build the vsock module for kernels 3.9 or better.
