I emerged ejabberd with mod_muc, pam, ssl, web and zlib. If it installs a default configuration, then it's probably better (and safer) to disable all extras in that configuration.
Maybe the example config should go to /usr/share/doc instead of /etc/jabber?
ejabberd-2.1 has been removed from the tree (see bug 539040). Please open a new bug if it occurs in >=ejabberd-16.
