Description Serge Ratke 2013-06-27 08:13:13 UTC
starting with, what i believe was, 4.10.2, kde started to freeze a couple of seconds after login for more than a minute ~1.20. occasionally it freezes also when i start some kde apps or scroll a pdf/ebook in okular.

by freezing i mean that everything graphical freezes, the processes in behind still appear to work ( such as amarok still plays the music ).

i skimmed through the .xsession-errors, but -- frankly -- no idea what i should be looking for. nothing suspecious in /var/log/

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. login into a kde session
2.
3.
Actual Results:
freezes after login

Expected Results:
no freezing

Please try with a stopwatch :) - is it exactly 25sec? Then it's a dbus timeout...
Comment 3 Serge Ratke 2013-06-27 08:43:46 UTC
i guess i've figured it out. saw a couple of timeout messages regarding avahi (not being able to start). so i removed cupsd from default rc. now it doesn't freeze anymore.
Comment 4 Serge Ratke 2013-06-27 08:46:33 UTC
sorry, no, the problem's still persists.
Comment 5 Serge Ratke 2013-06-27 08:48:09 UTC
as you said it is a dbus timeout that's logged.
Comment 6 Serge Ratke 2013-06-30 11:11:42 UTC
after removing avahi (zeroconf) the dbus timeout messages in (/var/log/messages) vanished. though i still have the freezes after login for about 35 sec

Does this issue still persist with latest KDE?
Comment 8 Serge Ratke 2013-08-23 17:52:51 UTC
yes, it does. it happens usually when i start reading documents (PDFs mostly) in okular

Do you have multiple displays/monitors?

No answer since over a month, seems obsolete.
