The bluefish ebuild has mandatory dependencies to gucharmap but in the INSTALL filefrom the archive one can read:
> - gucharmap (optional for character map plugin. Version 2.x is recommended)

It would may be better to add a gucharmap flag, or eventually to inform user for the optional character map plugin in the post install.

I confirmed that gucharmap is optional in both 2.2.6 & 2.2.7, and I've added a USE flag for it in the 2.2.7 ebuild in bug 555414.
