Description Marc Geerlings 2004-04-05 08:19:04 UTC
Browsing a MS Windows network with Nautilus 2.6.0 functions. I'm seeing the workgroups and nodes (computers). Browsing a computer and/or folder which doesn't require a login (user and password) also works (so gnome-vfs is compiled with samba enabled). But whenever I want to browse a computer and/or folder which is login protected, Nautilus refuses to display the contents displaying a message "The folder contents could not be displayed". On the same machine under the same user the applications smbclient and Xffm (filemanager from Xfce4) are able to browse these computers and/or folders after a dialog asking for login information is displayed. My understanding is that under gnome 2.6.0 a daemon called gnome-keyring-daemon is handling the logins under gnome-vfs (which Nautilus is using). a ps -ef displays that this daemon is running. Set shows that a environment variable called "GNOME_KEYRING_SOCKET" is also made and points to a socket in /tmp which is also available with correct user rights.

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Open Network Servers in the Gnome menu
2. Open Windows Network
3. Open a Workgroup
4. Open a Password protected computer (fails)
5. Open a browsable computer (works)
6. Open a browsable folder (works)
7. Open a Password protected folder (fails)
8. Use smbclient and/or Xffm to reach the same computer and/or folder (works)

Actual Results:
step 4 and 7 fails. Everytime a password protected computer and/or folder is
selected Nautilus fails too open it, instead it displays a message "The folder
contents could not be displayed"

Expected Results:
Displaying a dialog which asks for a user and password.

Does this still happen in nautilus-2.6.1?

yep try the latest keyring/gnome-vfs/nautilus combo and report back if it's still a problem
