Description Tom Knight (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-04-25 16:39:14 UTC
I have a problem with Blackboard sites that are running SP11 or later but on further investigation I only get this problem with www-client/firefox-20.0.1 but not with www-client/firefox-bin-20.0.1 so thought I'd report it here first to see if it's a Gentoo problem rather than a problem with FF or Blackboard.

On the affected sites (www.coursesites.com being one of them) once the page has loaded it will go completely black until you mouse over elements on the page. When FF loses foxus the page will go black again.

I've tried this with a new profile in safe mode so I know it's not related to my profile/add-ons.

If I try it in firefox-bin 20.0.1 the bug does not show.

I had similar results with firefox 17.0.5 but it wasn't as bad.

I've added a screencast that shows the problem here (28MB): http://dev.gentoo.org/~tomk/ff20bug.avi

Let me know if you need any more info.

Given it's member only...

Still, it *might* be a duplicate (in a way), of my bug 466418.

IMHO, it's still an upstream problem, even if it's caused by that patch, though upstream obviously disagrees.

Ah, the joys of "let's bundle everything" policy.

You can sign up for a new account. There is no flash on that page.

This is most likely still a cairo issue, if you can test the overlay version with system-cairo disabled and report would help.

It's still something about triggering incorrect redrawing and I'd hate creating such an account even more than I hate registering to a random bug tracking site for a sake of a single bug in a package I don't really use.

Yes it is cairo-related. I emerged www-client/firefox-21.0_beta3 from the overalay with -system-cairo and the issue does not show up.
Comment 7 Dmitry 2013-05-18 10:10:36 UTC
I have very similar issues in YouTube and also font rendering problems in LiveJournal and Google+. Firefox-bin and firefox-21 without system-cairo enabled have no problems.
I have some other rendering issues in gtk+:3 applications, that is probably cairo related too.

Here is two examples:
http://youtu.be/wUIY1dCaRsw - disappearing elements
http://youtu.be/YNGEWZn2aRE - font rendering

If you feel I have closed your bug and it is still a current issue, please reopen and update it completely. We will not work bugs that have no ebuild in tree any longer or can not be reproduced with a current system.
