Description Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2013-02-21 19:01:56 UTC
As suggested here https://bugs.gentoo.org/show_bug.cgi?id=457808#c4 I'm opening this bug because within a chrooted x86 stable Gentoo image I got the following :

$ enalyze rebuild use

  -- Scanning installed packages for USE flag settings that
     do not match the default settings
  -- preparing pkgs for file entries
   - Saving file: /root/package.use.test
   - Done

$ cat package.use.test
# This package.use file was generated by gentoolkit's 'enalyze rebuild' module
# Date: Thu Feb 21 19:55:41 2013

sys-apps/busybox pam
sys-devel/binutils test
sys-devel/flex test

sys-libs/db test

$ cat /etc/portage/package.use

dev-lang/php                    xsl
www-servers/apache              doc

2 things which I'm wondering :

1) apache isn't listed in /root/package.use.test
2) a lot of packages having USE flag "test" - but I do have FEATURES="test" enabled, therefore I'd expect either all or no package of that kind here

and as an example that "test" was used during emerge :

$ emerge --info sys-devel/binutils | egrep "USE=.*test.*"
USE="cxx nls test zlib -multislot -multitarget -static-libs -vanilla"
Comment 1 Brian Dolbec (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-22 18:37:25 UTC
OK, I'll have to add some code to special case the test use flag. It is enabled by the FEATURES=test emerge option.

Enalyze does not check features as yet. The test flag is being added because it found that the pkg was installed with the test flag enabled, but test is not enabled by default. In your case it is being enabled at emerge time by the FEATURES=test option. Not all pkgs offer a test flag, plus only those pkgs that are emerged after the feature is set will have it shown.

Please post your "emerge --info www-servers/apache" with the /etc/portage/package.use entry disabled. That way I can get what your default use flags are without that package.use entry interfering.

Also the contents of the three files in "/var/db/pkg/ww-servers/apache-{ver}/" IUSE , USE , PKGUSE

with commented out line of /etc/portage/package.use :

Comment 3 Brian Dolbec (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-22 19:50:45 UTC
hmm, I can't reproduce it here.

It is working for me with both portage-9999 and 2.1.11.50.

does "equery has USE doc" list apache too, also "enalyze analyze -v use" list apache under the +doc use flag?

This is strange...
Comment 4 Toralf Förster gentoo-dev 2013-02-22 20:01:53 UTC
great - today it works for apache and "doc" like expected - tested both as normal user and as root - grr, somethign screwed up either with my system or with me.

What's left is the "test" use flag behaviour - should I leave this bug report open for that ?
Comment 5 Brian Dolbec (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2013-02-22 20:10:36 UTC
yes, I've also just updated the summary.
