To reproduce, please emerge media-libs/libvisual-0.4.0-r2 with USE="nls -debug -static-libs -threads". Result: the configure script says that threads are enabled, see below. Please either fix this, or remove the "threads" USE flag so that the ebuild does not pretend that there is a way or a use case to disable threads. >>> Configuring source in /home/build/portage/media-libs/libvisual-0.4.0-r2/work/libvisual-0.4.0 ... * econf: updating libvisual-0.4.0/config.sub with /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.sub * econf: updating libvisual-0.4.0/config.guess with /usr/share/gnuconfig/config.guess ./configure --prefix=/usr --build=i686-pc-linux-gnu --host=i686-pc-linux-gnu --mandir=/usr/share/man --infodir=/usr/share/info --datadir=/usr/share --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var/lib --disable-dependency-tracking --disable-static --enable-shared --enable-nls --disable-threads --disable-debug configure: loading site script /usr/share/config.site checking for a BSD-compatible install... /usr/bin/install -c checking whether build environment is sane... yes checking for gawk... gawk checking whether make sets $(MAKE)... yes checking build system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking host system type... i686-pc-linux-gnu checking for Win32... no checking for i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++... i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ checking for C++ compiler default output file name... a.out checking whether the C++ compiler works... yes checking whether we are cross compiling... no checking for suffix of executables... checking for suffix of object files... o checking whether we are using the GNU C++ compiler... yes checking whether i686-pc-linux-gnu-g++ accepts -g... yes checking for style of include used by make... Actually the ebuild does the right thing - it's probably the configure script that has the automagic which we should fix.
I believe this has been fixed since -r3 where patch libvisual-0.4.0-cond.patch [1] was first introduced. When compiling locally unlike with -r2 in the report the configure output no longer reads… > checking whether to enable thread support... yes > checking for thread implementation available... posix > checking for pthread_create/pthread_join... no > checking for pthread_create/pthread_join in -lpthread... yes > checking thread related libraries... -lpthread …but… > checking whether to enable thread support... checking thread related libraries... …on a single line. I'm therefore closing this issue as fixed, please re-open as needed. [1] https://gitweb.gentoo.org/repo/gentoo.git/tree/media-libs/libvisual/files/libvisual-0.4.0-cond.patch
