Description Agostino Sarubbo gentoo-dev 2012-11-01 17:14:47 UTC
From https://secunia.com/advisories/50421/ :

Description
Multiple vulnerabilities have been reported in Linux Kernel, which can be exploited by malicious,
local users or malicious people to cause a DoS (Denial of Service).

1) A NULL pointer dereference error when handling deletion of directory hierarchies can be
exploited to cause a kernel crash by running "rm -rf" on a large directory hierarchy.

Successful exploitation requires an ext4 filesystem on a RAID device.

2) A NULL pointer dereference error in the i.MX clock infrastructure due to missing clock
conversion can be exploited to cause a kernel crash by e.g. tricking a user into playing a
specially crafted WAV file using aplay.

3) An error while handling an out-of-memory condition can be exploited to exhaust all memory
resources.

4) An error due to lack of synchronisation while handling socket options can be exploited to cause
a crash.

Solution
Update to version 3.4.10 or 3.5.3.

Comment 1 Aaron Bauman (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2018-04-04 18:19:20 UTC
There are no longer any 2.x or <3.4 kernels available in the repository with the exception of sys-kernel/xbox-sources which is unsupported by security.
