Description Randy Flood 2004-03-08 10:46:20 UTC
On my Compaq Presario Laptop, the Gentoo 2004.0 Live CD puts the window such that the command line is off the bottom of the screen. This makes the installation of gentoo very challenging. For example, Partitioning a disk with fdisk, when you cannot see the prompts, and you have to do everything completely from memory is very difficult...

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot from the Gentoo live cd.
2.
3.

Actual Results:
The window is positioned such that it is off of the bottom of the screen, and
I can find no way to move it up.

Expected Results:
Placed the window witin the bounds of the screen.

Does this also appear with $kernelname-nofb (i.e. framebuffer switched off) ?
Comment 2 Randy Flood 2004-03-11 11:51:33 UTC
Yes, it does appear when uesing gentoo nofb.

The only way I could install gentoo is to use gentoo vga=0 (which I found mentioned in another bug report.) I suggest that this option be added to the installation manual and the options listed when you press F-2 when booting up.

Isn't vga=0 the default (i.e. 80x25)? If the LiveCD takes vga=3 as default (80x26) then I would understand the bugreport and poke the LiveCD peeps to use the 80x25 as default, but afaik it already is defaulted.

I don't believe an update to the documentation is needed in this case.
