It should be possible to tell the version of a certain piece of documentation when browsing the gentoo doc web. Maybe date of modification would be nice to have as well. Right now it's too much of a moving target IMHO... Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3.
Maybe you're interested to read Bug 25474. The last modification date is added in the top right corner of every document. A full history with viewable diffs would be cool, though.
Unless you can give me a counter-example all documents have a version number and a date of last modification (on the top right of your screen). The version numbers and date change when the document has been altered to the extend that the content has changed (i.e. not with typo corrections or grammar fixes).
Created attachment 27027 [details] Snapshot of the gentoo handbook upper right corner Uhm, the gentoo handbook does only have a modification date (mistake in my original bug report, and I should have looked closer to the buglist before filing...)
Ah yes; the version number isn't shown. The date otoh is. This was due to the fact that displaying version numbers made ppl wonder if a "0.2" document is still in beta, "1.1" is a fixed version of "1.0" and "1.9" will become "2.0" soon(ish) or not. I.e. too many questions :) Displaying a date shows when the last update happened which is, imho, sufficient.
