On a freshly installed gentoo system, no user can login into gnome. They can login into xfree. Trying to log into gnome causes the login process to stop right after leaving gdm. The splash screen remains grey, and there the login stops. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. Install a fresh gnome install on a freshly installed system 2. Login as a user 3. Actual Results: User cannot login. Login stops for no appearent reason. Expected Results: User should log in normaly. gnomerc-errors contains this: SESSION_MANAGER=local/Damage-inc:/tmp/.ICE-unix/23762 (gnome-session:23762): Gdk-CRITICAL **: file gdkdraw.c: line 644 (gdk_draw_drawable): assertion `src != NULL' failed Also, this is my first time trying with a separate /home partition. I tried unmounting it and creating the new home on the / partition, but the problem was still here.

sorry for no reaction. How is this moving along ? Any progress ? here's some info on getting backtraces : http://bugzilla.gnome.org/getting-traces.cgi (check the 'only GDB' part) you have to recompile the application/lib with debugging support & not strip the binaries (can be done in make.conf)
