I buy my lenovo x220i notebook (sandybridge platform) from 2011.6 and keep my gentoo up-to-date since then, but this problem kept appearing. I believe the problem is in graphic driver, since it never appear on my other computers, nor in windows on the same machine. I have never figured out how to trigger this problem, and never find any related error message in syslog or dmesg, but it appeared with every application, no matter in gnome-shell or gnome 3 fallback-mode please see my screenshot.
