Description Mike Hammill 2012-01-03 20:12:38 UTC
Upgrading ibm-jdk-bin from 1.6.0.9_p1 to 1.6.0.9_p2 on ppc32.

Ebuild claims you can get the binary from IBM either by:
(1) * Please visit: http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html
* Under Java SE 6, download SR9-FP2 for your arch:
* ibm-java-sdk-6.0-9.2-linux-ppc.tgz
or (2) * You can also use a direct link to your arch download page:
* https://www14.software.ibm.com/webapp/iwm/web/preLogin.do?source=swg-sdk6&S_PKG=ipseries32_6sr9fp2&S_TACT=105AGX05&S_CMP=JDK
or (3) * Note: if SR9-FP2 is not available at http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/download.html
* it may have been moved to http://www.ibm.com/developerworks/java/jdk/linux/older_download.html. Lately that page
* isn't updated, but the files should still available through the
* direct link to arch download page. If it doesn't work, file a bug.

Unlike in the past, none of these options worked.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Try to upgrade ibm-jdk-bin on ppc32
Cannot get file that ebuild wants
Stuck on this for a few days, surprised no one else has reported it.

At site (1), you can find what appears to be the closest match:

tgz package (InstallAnywhere)
ibm-java-sdk-6.0-9.2-linux-ppc.bin  (97 MB)

*Perhaps* this is the problem that IBM says it's a tgz package but only supplies a .bin. I tried tarring gzipping that file, but the ebuild doesn't like that.

At site (2) one finds only SR10 and SR3. No SR9

At site (3) one can get to
tgz format
IBMJava2-SDK-1.4.2-9.0.ppc.tgz
going through the "arch" as suggested if it's not immediately present. However, that is obviously not it either.

Confirmed. You should have CC'd ppc@gentoo.org when you filed this.

Looking at the changelog, I'm either misreading something or there's a disconnect. In bug 377623, xarthisius says he marked ibm-jdk-bin-1.6.0.9_p2 stable on ppc/ppc64 on Aug 13, but the changelog says that JoseJX stabilized it on Dec 21.

Unfortunately that ^^ doesn't guarantee that upstream keeps their packages indefinitely. They were prolly removed due to security issues (see bug 386355).
