Description Jens 2011-10-24 14:25:00 UTC
Compiling sqlite (all versions) on Solaris 11 errs with:

libtool: link: i386-pc-solaris2.11-gcc -D_REENTRANT=1 -DSQLITE_THREADSAFE=1 -DSQLITE_ENABLE_FTS3 -DSQLITE_ENABLE_RTREE -O2 -pipe -o .libs/sqlite3 shell.o ./.libs/libsqlite3.so -lreadline -lcurses -Wl,-rpath -Wl,/gentoo/usr/lib
/gentoo/usr/lib/gcc/i386-pc-solaris2.11/4.2.4/../../../../i386-pc-solaris2.11/bin/ld: ./.libs/libsqlite3.so: dlsym: invalid version 10 (max 0)
./.libs/libsqlite3.so: could not read symbols: Bad value

This is similar to bug#379281 . A solution to 379281 was to disable extensions by prefixing the emerge with EXTRA_ECONF="--disable-dynamic-extensions". This allows me to compile, but 'extensions' is still broken.

emerge -pqv =dev-db/sqlite-3.7.8
[ebuild R ] dev-db/sqlite-3.7.8 USE="extensions fts3 readline threadsafe -debug -doc -icu -secure-delete -soundex -tcl -test -unlock-notify"

 emerge --info =dev-db/sqlite-3.7.7.1-r1

As a pointer from IRC:

willikins:
chithead: bug#1021 "bfd links incorrectly on solaris"; binutils, ld; REOP; mk:unassigned

chithead:
workaround is either using sun ld or replacing -lpthread with -pthread
Comment 5 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2011-10-30 19:00:22 UTC
-pthread ftw
Comment 6 René Berber 2011-10-31 00:14:00 UTC
The underlying bug is in binutils under Solaris, the following reference shows the description and fixes (to be released at this time):

http://sourceware.org/bugzilla/show_bug.cgi?id=1021#c15
Comment 7 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2011-11-30 14:19:07 UTC
I don't easily see any positive remarks on fixes. But what version of GNU ld should they be available in?
Comment 8 Fabian Groffen gentoo-dev 2017-11-14 14:56:45 UTC
sqlite can be installed on Solaris these days
