When I turn off the option for "Symmetric multi-processing support" CONFIG_SMP I am unable to compile the kernel. The machines in question have no such support. This problem is present for 2 out of my 4 machines. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1. 2. 3. I'm going to reproduce the results, and attach config files, and the error logs.

Can you do me a favor. Copy your .config out, make mrproper or distclean, copy your .config back in, then try again.
That seemed to fix everything. Some kind of problem with "make dep"?
I'm not sure exactly where the problem is, but I've seen a few other problems fixed by cleaning. I'll see if I can track it down, but I'm going to go ahead and close this bug.
