The compiled/linked arpd binary is dynamic linked, no mather if libevent.a exists or not. Were would i find a autotools check for libevent?! That's better for patching in Gentoo for sure. As for a pre-cooked libevent test, I guess it's easier if I come up with one tomorrow (right now it's unlikely I can come up with one and test), and send it to autoconf archive for future reference.
