I have compiled a new kernel with the gentoo-sources (2.4.20-r8) using the latest stable gcc3.2.1 (system only contains only software from stable tree, no ~x86). The Kernel config includes cryptoapi, ipsec, iptables etc. and compiles without any error. When I try to boot up the system using the new kernel it decompresses and says that everything's fine and it will boot up now. Several seconds later the screen turn bright grey and only the curser appears in the lower left corner - a few seconds later the system reboots without a kernel panic. I tried to compile this kernel with and without cryptoapi, ipsec, framebuffer support in I think every possible combination. Even compiling the kernel containing only rudimentary options and with option AthlonXP>31 or just AthlonXP will fail. Vanilla sources compiles fine. Reproducible: Always Steps to Reproduce: 1.Compiling gentoo-source-2.4.20-r8 2.Booting up the new kernel 3. Actual Results: (hard) reboot Sorry - I'm at my working place now. System is a AthlonXP 1800+, 768 MB Ram (tested and working fine). If requested I will add the complete emerge --info result later.
1) Please *attach* not *paste* your kernel .config to this bug 2) <quote> bright grey and only the curser appears </quote> Are you implying that it boots up and starts XFree and then spontaneously reboots? Or is this the framebuffer initializing?
Ping - please see comment #1...
We can't really solve this without a kernel configuration. If you can attach one, feel free to reopen this bug. Thanks!
