Description Georgi Kehaiov 2010-05-20 07:15:54 UTC
On monday I upgraded my xorg-server to 1.8.1. Couple of hours later my keyboard stopped responding or so I assumed, unplugging the usb cable didn't help, so I rebooted. The system booted alright, but kdm was frozen dead and didn't react to any input. I could change to a vt though, so I did. After three days of trying out different things (and desperately searching for help on #gentoo, #gentoo-chat and #gentoo-kde) I managed to pin down the problem - after the xorg server upgrade you NEED to recompile scim (if you use scim in the first place), otherwise no qt applications will run anymore.
What has scim to do with qt? Probably QT4_IM_MODULE="scim-bridge" is at fault. I couldn't get any further.
I'm running a completely ~x86 distro.

The problem is solved after recompiling scim. But it'd be nice to add an elog about this.

I suspect that was a local failure.
Was that 1.7->1.8 move ? If so, did you rebuild the drivers ?

Did revdep-rebuild report any problems ?

Anyway, unless anyone else can reproduce it,
this will probably be a WORKSFORME.

> Was that 1.7->1.8 move ? If so, did you rebuild the drivers ?

It was exactly that move. I rebuilt the drivers (I use only xf86-input-evdev and xf86-video-ati).

> Did revdep-rebuild report any problems ?

No, none at all.
