Description Risto A. Paju 2010-04-17 16:47:50 UTC
openssh-5.5_p1 does not have hpn available, unlike many previous versions. However, the current ebuild has hpn in IUSE, and since I have it enabled, the ebuild fails:

 * Messages for package net-misc/openssh-5.5_p1:

 * Sorry, but this version does not yet support features
 * that you requested:   hpn
 * Please mask openssh-5.5_p1 for now and check back later:
 *  # echo '=net-misc/openssh-5.5_p1' >> /etc/portage/package.mask
 * ERROR: net-misc/openssh-5.5_p1 failed:
 *   booooo

As a temporary solution, I removed hpn from IUSE. I did not remove the other bits involving hpn, as they are probably useful in the future when hpn is available again.

Did you read the error-message?

I want my openssh with hpn and I rather have emerge openssh fail and telling me to mask the package temporarily (which is the right temporary solution by the way), than have openssh silently install without it unless there is a big bad bug fixed by the update.

I suggest RESOLVED INVALID for this bug

Hm, he is correct. The ebuild does some magic on its own, it took me some time to understand what's going on. It seems that you will have to wait until hpn patches are available (on a next patchset bump). I resolve this bug as LATER.
