Description Andreas Kotowicz 2003-10-10 14:38:31 UTC
I couldn't send out any emails from evolution anymore. but I got an email from
an ximian guy:

---
From: Jeffrey Stedfast <fejj@ximian.com>
Subject: Re: Re:[Evolution-hackers] evo / ORBit2 oddness...

you are suffering from a glibc 2.3.2 bug in gethostbyaddr_r() - you'll need
to remove all blank lines and comment blocks from /etc/hosts
Jeff
---

after I did what he said I can now send out emails without a problem

Reproducible: Always
Steps to Reproduce:
1.start evolution
2.create mail
3.try to send mail

Actual Results:
I get a message:
Error while performing operation:
MAIL FROM response error: Command unrecognized: ""

Expected Results:
send out mail

you forgot `emerge info` ... each of the 2.3.2 glibc ebuilds is diff and
it matters very much which one you're using

sorry about that. here you go:Portage 2.0.49-r3 (default-x86-1.4, gcc-3.2.3,

Can you try glibc-2.3.2-r[56] please ?

Comment 5 Ioannis Aslanidis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-14 00:14:53 UTC
I have tried with glibc-2.3.2-r6 and the function gethostbyname() doesn't
work either.

Comment 7 Paul Tötterman 2003-10-18 03:01:10 UTC
I reported #31395 only *after* trying to clean my /etc/hosts, and that did
not fix it, so I do *not* think that #31395 is a DUPLICATE.
Comment 8 Ioannis Aslanidis (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2003-10-29 16:12:09 UTC
All right... mine was a programming problem, not a fault of glibc...
Comment 9 Andrew Cooks (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2004-01-31 14:51:08 UTC
This bug has been inactive for 90 days or more.

Can this bug still be reproduced? I couldn't reproduce it.

Please test with glibc-2.3.2-r9 (or later) and reopen this bug if the problem persists.
