There is an interesting plugin for gedit called "Elastic Tabstops" (see URL). I think it would make a nice addition to gedit-plugins. I know that gedit-plugins is actually a Gnome package, but that shouldn't stop us from adding a third party plugin, should it? Alternatively, one could make an extra package for ElTabs.
Looks like this should be a separate package, but I've CC'ed gedit-plugins maintainers for their opinion.
Yup but because this is a third party plugin it's not in gedit-plugins on upstream... so why add it in gedit-plugins ? I meant we must respect what upstream decided. This plugin looks nice and interesting, but I prefer move it in another package, as said Peter. :)
PS: feel free to write your own ebuild, you could help us a lot ;)
Do we need an app-gedit category like vim has now?
(In reply to comment #4) > Do we need an app-gedit category like vim has now? > That's the reason I initially thought it would be better to make this an useflag for gedit-plugins. But I agree that a seperate ebuild is a better idea. Creating a new category for this is overkill tbh. (In reply to comment #3) > PS: feel free to write your own ebuild, you could help us a lot ;) > Hey, I'd love to. But the only ebuild I ever made was pretty simple (umouse) and even that one is most likely completely wrong (although it works) ;) I could try it of course. After having a quick look at gedit-plugins, I conclude that it can't be that hard. One question: what's "G2CONF"?
(In reply to comment #4) > Do we need an app-gedit category like vim has now? > there aren't plugins enough for now, imho. However, we could have a look at third party plugins on upstream, and for each interesting plugin, we could write an ebuild and import it in app-gedit/ in portage... mhhhh... why not :) @herd: suggestion ?
The real question is: does anyone on the team actually use gedit for serious work? I'm a vimmer, so I don't use it at all, so I'd be pretty bad at maintaining any large set of plugins. Maybe we need some serious gedit users that we can proxy maintain plugins for.
Funtoo seems to handle gedit plugins by calling the packages "gedit-pluginname". I think it would be the best idea tofollow this layout, as it makes the most sense with few plugins.
