Description Richard Connon 2010-01-05 12:49:27 UTC
Using gentoo-sources-2.6.32 (and r1) my system freezes when starting X.
Not sure what supplementary information is required to diagnose this fault so please ask for more info.

Reproducible: Always

Steps to Reproduce:
Comment 1 Lars Wendler (Polynomial-C) (RETIRED) gentoo-dev 2010-01-14 18:37:20 UTC
Please post your "emerge --info" and attach a file containing the output from "dmesg". Attaching your kernel's config, your xorg.conf (in case you're using any), the Xorg.0.log file (in case your system creates that file before the freeze sets in) and the output of

  lspci -nnv

(from sys-apps/pciutils package) might be helpful as well.

Please provide the above mentioned information and then reopen this bug.

It wont let me create more attachments. Not sure what to do now.

What version of nvidia-driver are you using? I recall one of the Nvidia maintainers saying that Nvidia was still working on 2.6.32 support, so you probably need to wait for the next nvidia-drivers release.
Comment 8 Richard Connon 2010-01-24 09:58:13 UTC
I'm just using the newest from the portage tree. I imagine that I just need to wait.
Comment 9 Jacob Godserv 2010-01-27 04:13:11 UTC
If it helps, I'm running x11-drivers/nvidia-drivers-185.18.36 for my 9600M GT card in my MacBook just fine on a 2.6.32 kernel (which I actually needed anyway for other hardware support). This may not be a blanket "nvidia + 2.6.32 = fail" issue.

You could provide some nvidia-drivers versions you tried and we could then perhaps find out what the problem is.

I just tested with gentoo-sources-2.6.32-r7 and nvidia-drivers-190.53-r1
The screen just goes black and the system freezes. I've attached a new lspci -nnv since I'm using different hardware to when I first reported.

lspci -nnv

New lspci -nnv with my current hardware.
