Description Johannes Hirte 2009-11-22 23:05:22 UTC
I was wondering why rngd consumes so much CPU time. A short lock into the logs showed me lots of:

rngd: Unable to open /dev/tpm0: No such file or directory

rngd_tpm_support.patch seems to be broken. Downgrading to sys-apps/rng-tools-2-r1 helped.

Reproducible: Always

I've masked 2-r2 because that's seriously broken behavior: currently it defaults to using TPM. This should be the opposite: default to ignore TPM.

It's not only the default behavior. I couldn't disable it at all. The --no-tpm option seemed to be completely ignored by rngd.

rng-tools-2-r3 now in the tree with a new spin of the patch.
Sorry about the delay, I had to find time to review the patch well on various systems with hwrng but not TPM.

Please test the new revbump.

This version is not in the tree anymore. In addition to that, the new kernel hw_random interface can use TPM as its backend, so there is no need for explicitly opening /dev/tpm0 now. Feel free to re-open if the problem still exists for you.
